Q . What Does ADSL stand for?

A . ADSL stands for A symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a technology that allows a fixed, high-speed, digital connection via Ghana Telecom's standard analogue phone line network. The installation of ADSL equipment in both the telephone exchange and on your premises converts the copper pairs into a permanent high-speed digital connection to the Internet.

Q . How does ADSL work?

A . ADSL operates over a standard telephone line. The signals are carried by two DSL modems: one at the user end and one in the local exchange. The modems operate outside the range utilized by the voice calls and can offer much higher data rates than existing voice modems.

A 'splitter' (which is a filter), separates the telephony signal from the DSL signal, one at the user end and one at the exchange end. This means that telephone calls can be made at the same time that data is being sent or received. Ultimately ADSL 'squeezes' more capacity out of a phone line without interfering with your normal telephone services.

Q . Is the cost of the phone line included in the subscription for Broadband4U?

A . No, the cost of telephone line is at present not included in the Broadband4U subscription.

Q . I want to apply for Broadband4U but I don’t have a phone line, can I get one?

A . Make a request for the phone line; once you have got the line that is pre-qualified to be able to support the service, you now can apply for Broadband4U.

Q . I want to apply for Broadband4U but I don’t have a phone line, can I get broadband without a traditional phone line?

A . Yes. GT provides wireless broadband in selected areas. Please contact the nearest Care4U Centre to check if you can be served.

Q. In addition to web hosting, does Broadband4U provide web designing too?

A . Not yet, but we are planning toward that.

Q . How does ADSL Differ from leased line as they both give permanent access at fixed cost?

A . ADSL is similar to a leased line in the respect that it gives permanent Internet access at a fixed cost without affecting your telephone line. However it differs in some important respects.

  • A leased line is a symmetric dedicated service (the same upstream & downstream bandwidth) creating a permanent connection between your premises and the Internet through GT.
  • ADSL is a contented service. This means that it is a best effort network and the bandwidth is not guaranteed.
  • A leased line is provided as part of a managed service with guaranteed data rates on the line and is covered by business services with the added support features.

Q . Can I keep the same phone number when using Broadband4U?

A . As the installation of ADSL is designed to have no negative effects on your standard telephone service, most customers should be able to retain their existing telephone number

Q . Will I still need to pay for my phone bill?

A . Yes, ADSL is only provided on a working voice line and the voice call charges are separate from ADSL fixed cost.

Q . What is included in the package?

A . GT supplies the end-to-end service, which includes the ASDL digital modem, the splitter and required connection cables.

Q. Do I get a discount for paying yearly/ ½ yearly quarterly?

A. Currently no. However different plans linked to duration of guaranteed usage are being designed and will be available soon.

A. Currently No.

Q. Is it only one PC that I can use on my residential Broadband4U link?

A . You may distribute your connection to more than one system but this is at the expense of speed since the more PCs on the link, the less bandwidth for each of one them.
